Chemical Hazard News Highlights – May 15, 2015

At MSDSonline, we’re committed to keeping our customers informed about EHS news from across the country and around the world. That’s why we present this news roundup each Friday, featuring EHS stories from the week that they might have missed.

This week we saw OSHA continuing to level fines against violators, with an emphasis on willful violations that put workers in danger. There was also interesting fallout from a series of articles that ran last week in the New York Times about the dangers and challenges faced by nail salon workers in New York City. Chief among these were exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals and a lack of required PPE. Based on public outcry resulting from these articles, the governor of New York ordered a series of emergency health measures to protect workers and combat wage theft. He also created a new, multiagency task force that would perform spot inspections of nail salons going forward.
