OSHA announced today that it will be surveying 19,000 employers nationwide about their safety practices in order to guide future rules, compliance and outreach efforts. Called the Baseline Survey of Safety and Health Practices, the survey will be used to support OSHA’s implementation of I2P2, the Injury and Illness Prevention Programs Standard.

You can read a draft of the questionnaire as well as OSHA’s justification for the survey at www.regulations.gov. Following are examples of the survey questions:

  • At your establishment, does your company perform any exposure monitoring (air sampling) for employee exposure to toxic substances?
  • Has your establishment performed any monitoring for employee exposure to noise?
  • For the employees at your establishment who get the most safety training, how frequent is that training?

The survey is voluntary and will be sent to the selected employers. OSHA plans to conclude the survey by August.
