Aug 27, 2010
Chicago (August 27, 2010) – Chicago-based, MSDSonline, a leading provider of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) solutions met with safety professionals at this year’s VPPPA’s National Conference on August 24, in Orlando, FL. Chuck Haling, MSDSonline’s VP of sales, delivered a presentation covering a wide-range of compliance issues around OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard - also known as HCS or HazCom.
“VPPPA’s National Conference is one of the most important events on our calendar; and for the third year, MSDSonline was asked to share EH&S best practices with attendees,” said Haling. “VPPPA brings together the best safety professionals from around the country, so being selected to present on HCS compliance is an honor we take seriously.”
OSHA’s HCS was adopted in 1983 and covers over 100 million workers in over 7 million workplaces. It was created to “ensure that the hazards of all chemicals produced or imported are evaluated and that information concerning their hazards is transmitted to employers and employees.” [Source: OSHA website]
MSDSonline’s engaging presentation, titled OSHA: Fact or Fiction, is a primer on HCS and features an entertaining and informative play-along quiz. Topics covered include:
- The four main requirements of HCS
- Responsibilities of manufacturers, distributors and employers
- MSDS management
- Physical hazards
- Health hazards
- Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling (GHS)
MSDSonline will be presenting on HCS and GHS at additional conferences this fall, including at the College University Hazardous Waste Conference (CUHWC) and the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals (AHMP) in September.
