Q: How do I conduct a search?
A: There are two ways to conduct a search.
Simple Search: From the MSDS Tools tab, you can conduct a Simple Search by entering a Product or Manufacturer name in the input fields and then clicking "Search." This will display a list of results for the item entered. Remember, to view the MSDS you must be registered and signed in.

Advanced Search: Beneath the Simple Search fields, click "Go to Advanced Search." Here, you may search by Product, Manufacturer, Date, and/or other Product Identifiers (i.e. CAS #). Enter the information in the appropriate input field and click "Search." This will display a list of results for the item entered. The more fields you search by, the narrower your results will be. Remember, to view the MSDS you must be registered and signed in.

Q: What if I mistype the information?
A: That’s ok. When creating a search, text fields are NOT case sensitive. These fields are searched as strings, meaning any record containing the specific characters typed will appear, even if it is not a complete word.

Q: How do I view an MSDS?
A: Within the displayed results table, please note the PDF icon.
The PDF icon will launch Adobe Acrobat Reader and display a PDF image of the MSDS. Click the "Close MSDS" button on the top of the display page to return to the results table.

Click here if you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader. You can download the most current version FREE from the Adobe site.

Q: What if your database doesn’t have the MSDS I need?
A: Then we’ll try to get it for you. At MSDSonline we pride ourselves on delivering the content you need. We add more than 10,000 new or updated MSDSs each week, so, keep checking back.

Some suppliers deem MSDSs proprietary information and do not make them available for public use through the Internet. If you are a paying subscriber, let us know specifically the product and manufacturer of the MSDS you’re looking for and we’ll request to have the MSDS added to our Network on your behalf.

Q: What is an eBinder?
A: Your eBinder is a Web-based "folder" that enables you to store frequently accessed MSDSs. Think of it as your personal digital filing cabinet.

From the search results page, click the boxes in the left-hand "Select/View" column to select an MSDS. Click the "Add" button to add the item(s) to your eBinder. To view the contents of your eBinder, simply click on the "eBinder" Tab. When you’re in the eBinder view, you can delete items simply by clicking on the "Select Item" boxes and then clicking the "Delete Item" button. It’s that simple to use.

Q: What’s the difference between the eBinder and my software Binder?
A: Similar in functionality, the eBinder is a Web-based "folder", which enables you to store frequently accessed MSDSs on the web through this site.

The Binder is a tool within the MSDSadvantage Software. During the software setup process, a Binder is created locally on your hard drive and is used to store downloaded MSDSs (PDF documents).

Using our proprietary BinderSync technology you can download the contents of your Web-based eBinder into your desktop Binder with just one click. This feature helps you easily import new/revised documents from our Online database and your eBinder to your desktop Binder, while providing a backup database via our Web site.

Q: Can’t I use other free services to find MSDSs?
A: Yes, there are many free search engines available. However, there are a number of differences with MSDSonline, which we believe you will find of great value.

First, only MSDSonline provides a one-stop resource to the most current and relevant MSDSs available. While other sites may claim large databases, these destination sites often contain outdated information or link you to multiple search sites, which may or may not be password protected. Using the advanced technology via our database, we’ve already done the work for you, eliminating steps in finding the right and most current MSDS.

Second, only MSDSonline follows a unique three-pronged approach to updating the content of our database (learn more). Unlike other MSDS services, which work only with static or periodically updated CD-ROM-based databases, our system is dynamic. We add more than 10,000 new or updated MSDSs each week, keeping you more current and easing compliance.

Third, only MSDSonline integrates Web access to MSDSs with management software into one convenient service package to provide you an easy-to-use and efficient MSDS service. For just $29.95 a month, we think your employees' safety is worth it!

Q: What are the requirements for MSDS management in my industry?
A: We have a library of useful compliance resources and links to help answer your questions around MSDS requirements. Click here to visit our Resource Center.

Q: Will I be compliant using your service?
A: The OSHA Hazard Communication Standard 1910.1200 relating to MSDS compliance is a performance-oriented standard. As such, OSHA has avoided mandating any one particular format for achieving compliance with the standard. However, OSHA has issued general guidance for manufacturers (including importers and distributors) and employers when utilizing electronic technologies for transmission of and access to MSDSs. Click here to visit the OSHA Web site.

It has been a long-standing policy of OSHA that the transmission of hazard information over the phone is not acceptable.

MSDSonline assists manufacturers (suppliers) or employers (MSDS users) in converting MSDS information into an electronic format and is considered a third-party to the standard and therefore not a recognized entity under the HCS.

While manufacturers (suppliers) maintain responsibility for the adequacy and downstream flow of hazard information and employers (MSDS users) maintain responsibility for the adequacy of their workplace programs, our MSDSadvantage tools bring ease and efficiency to fulfilling this obligation.

Q: How can I get these documents to my workers electronically at our Right-to-Know Stations?
A: To help you make your MSDS library readily accessible, we offer BinderView. This product enables you to deploy your MSDSs throughout your organization via an Internet or Intranet viewer. Also, one of our MSDS Compliance Services includes custom development (read-only) of an easy-to-use search page, which will make your MSDSs quickly accessible, readable and printable from a PC.
