Error Message - “Unable to connect to Database”
If you remove or change the location of the database used by the software (MSDS2000.mdb), the software will prompt for the new location of the database upon launched. If the database structure was changed in anyway (i.e. tables added or removed), the software will not be able to open the database and will throw the “unable to connect to database” error. If you accidentally delete the database or corrupted it, make a back up copy of your data and reinstall the software to correct this problem.

However, if you get this error message the first time you’re trying to use the software, please follow the instruction below to solve the problem.

For Windows 98:
This error occurs because you are missing some components required to run MSDSadvantage. Please contact MSDSonline technical services 888-362-2007 to obtain the most current release of the software.

For Windows NT & 2000:
This error could be happening because you don’t have permission to the registry key for the software as a non-admin user. To check if it is a permission problem, run through the following steps:
  1. From Start, Run, type in the command regedt32
  2. Look for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE window
  3. In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, look for the MSDSonline5 key under SOFTWARE
  4. Make sure MSDSonline5 is highlighted, select Security menu from the menu bar and click on Permissions…
  5. In order for the software to work, your permission to the MSDSonline5 key needs to be set to full control. If it isn’t set to full control, please contact your IT administrator and have them set your permission accordingly.
If your permissions are set correctly and you are still getting the same error message, it means that you are missing some components required to run the software. Please contact MSDSonline technical services 888-362-2007 to obtain the most current release of the software.

Unable to sign in: error message “Page not found”
Verify that your computer is connected to the Internet. If it is, and you are getting this error, it means that you are behind a proxy server, and the software is unable to get through the firewall. Please follow the steps below to set up your proxy configuration:

  1. From the menu bar in MSDSadvantage software, choose View -> Options…
  2. Switch to the MSDSadvantage tab on the top
  3. Check the ‘Use Proxy Server’ Box and enter the appropriate IP and Port number for your proxy server. Click here to Determine your Proxy IP address and port number
  4. Click Apply and Close, then press the sign-in button to try the connection again.

BinderSync downloads 0 documents
In this scenario, you are probably behind a firewall that allows only outbound traffic. Because BinderSync is an inbound traffic, the software needs a permission through the firewall in order to download your MSDS’s. If you know the user authentication information for the proxy server (a username/password combination), please enter it in the Proxy Server settings in View -> Options menu. Otherwise, you should contact your network administrator to obtain permission.

How to Determine your Proxy IP address and port number
If you are behind a firewall, an easy way to figure out your Proxy IP address is by looking at your Internet browser configuration.

In Internet Explorer:
  1. Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab
  2. Click on “LAN Settings…” box (bottom right hand corner)
  3. If you are behind a proxy server, the server address and port will be set in the proxy server box.
In Netscape Navigator:
  1. Edit -> Preference
  2. On the left hand side menu tree, select Advance -> Proxy
  3. Locate the server address and port for the HTTP server on the right side of the screen.

Important: Do you have Access-97?

Yes:
Certain versions of Office 97 do not keep the necessary Registry Key to inform other setup programs about the existence of Access-97 on the computer. In such situations setup program for Advantage4.5 fails to identify the presence of Access-97 and replaces it with Access 2000 runtime environment. This creates the problem "Cannot find Database" when you run Access-97 applications. To prevent this from happening, please download the following patch and run it before installing Advantage4.5.

Download Advantage4.5 Patch for Access-97 with service pak-1

No:
If you do not have Access-97, you can install Advantage4.5 without any issues.

Don’t Know:
To find out whether you have Access installed on your machine,
  1. Click Start (at the bottom left of your screen)
  2. Select Programs
  3. You should see Microsoft Access Icon if you have MSAccess installed on your machine
